Centrist Bregman enters Democratic N.M. governor’s primary against Haaland

In his announcement video, first obtained by The Washington Post, Bregman rides across the New Mexico mesa on horseback in a black cowboy hat charging that the state is under attack by “Elon Musk, his puppet Donald Trump and Republicans in Washington” at a time when Democrats in Washington have been “weak, ineffective and complicit with all this madness.”

Sam Bregman to announce 2026 gubernatorial campaign, setting up primary showdown

The Bernalillo County District Attorney will announce his 2026 campaign for governor on Thursday in Las Vegas, N.M., setting up a primary election showdown against fellow Democrat Deb Haaland. His campaign also released an official campaign launch video featuring Bregman riding a horse and decrying the toxic national political environment, including the "radical left" that he accused of dividing Democrats.

DA Bregman talks lack of juvenile justice reform in public safety package
